Crossgates helps local charity as part of Christmas festivities

Crossgates Shopping Centre has sparkled during the festive season with a series of fantastic activities throughout December, starting with the arrival of the much loved Santa’s Grotto on Saturday 4th November.

Most recently, on Saturday 16th December, the centre was an official drop off point for Radio Aire’s Mission Christmas. Data shows that 1 in 4 children in the local community live in poverty and Mission Christmas is all about making sure that this number changes.

On the day, a festive magician and balloon modeller were on hand to entertain young and old alike while shoppers were encouraged to buy an extra present that was then left at the drop off point.

More than fifty presents were donated which will go straight to children in the local community. Shoppers are also still able to donate in the centre right up until Saturday 23rd December through the charity collection buckets.

Centre Manager, Matt Middleton, said: “Crossgates Shopping Centre has always been at centre of the community so this particular cause is one that is very close to our heart. We were overwhelmed by the response of our shoppers and were so pleased we could be involved in this great initiative.”

Throughout December, alongside the much loved Santa’s grotto, the centre has seen a series of magical activities including Christmas arts and crafts with the Creation station and festive fun with local charity the Creation station.

The festive fun rounds off in centre on Saturday 23rd with Jack Frost and the Snow Queen stilt walkers in centre. On Christmas Eve, Santa’s Grotto will close at 3pm, ahead of a busy working night for Father Christmas and his elves.
