A local married couple has been rewarded with a romantic meal for two at La Cantina44 restaurant, after winning the shopping centre’s #ShareTheLove Valentine’s competition.

Margaret and Barry Jackson were nominated for the prize by their son, Kieran Jackson, aged 23, at the “Love Letter Post Box” situated in the centre on the lead up to Valentine’s Day.

Locals got fully involved in the competition and Crossgates’ very own cupids made a special guest appearance to encourage customers to vote for their deserving loved ones, as well as spread love and happiness throughout the centre.

Nominee, Kieran Jackson, said: “It was fantastic to take part in a community competition which rewards people for just being great.

“I’m so thrilled that my parents were chosen to win the prize, they adopted me and my sisters after bringing up their own children and have always made sure we were given the best lives possible.”

Centre Manager at Crossgates Shopping Centre, Matthew Middleton, said: “We believe in recognising special people within the Crossgates community and couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate this than to reward them.

“The whole team here is delighted that the competition went so well and would like to congratulate Margaret and Barry for winning the well deserved prize.”

Crossgates Shopping Centre has an exciting array of events lined up for March, including World Book Day fun for all the family.

Children are being invited to come along to the centre dressed up as a character from their favourite book on Saturday 3rd March. Whether that’s Little Red Riding Hood or Horrid Henry, all kids are welcome for a day of educational fun.

Billy the Bookworm storyteller will be telling exciting tales throughout the day between 10am – 4pm.

The Creation Station will also return on 10th March to help children make the perfect gift for mum.
